Information Brochure Highlights
The GATE 2026 information brochure provides a comprehensive guide for candidates. Here are the key details:
Eligibility Criteria: A major change for GATE 2026 is the relaxation of the eligibility criteria. Candidates who are in their third year or higher of an undergraduate degree program are now eligible to apply. This includes students in degree programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities. Previously, only final-year or completed-degree candidates were eligible.
Application Fees (per test paper):
Regular Period (August 28 - September 28, 2025):
Female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates: ₹1,000
All other candidates: ₹2,000
Extended Period (September 29 - October 9, 2025):
Female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates: ₹1,500
All other candidates: ₹2,500
Required Documents for Online Application:
Scanned passport-size photograph (as per specifications in the brochure).
Scanned signature (as per specifications).
A valid photo ID (Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, PAN card, etc.).
Category certificate (OBC-NCL, SC, ST) if applicable.
PwD certificate if applicable.
Dyslexia certificate if applicable.
Exam Pattern:
Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Duration: 3 hours.
Total Marks: 100.
Number of Questions: 65.
Question Types:
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) - Negative marking applies.
Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) - No negative marking.
Numerical Answer Type (NAT) - No negative marking.
Sections: All papers will have a General Aptitude (GA) section (15 marks) and a subject-specific section (85 marks).
Papers and Syllabus: The exam will be conducted for a total of 30 papers. A new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) has been introduced within the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper. The syllabus for all papers is available in the information brochure and on the official GATE 2026 website.
